Architect Thorsten Deckler argues, with disarming charm and humour, that whilst many professionals continue to design cities with outdated mindsets, people in informal settlements are showing the way with highly responsive, organic solutions. Practising architecture today, he contends, should mean designing for the people, with the people.
Thorsten Deckler is founding partner of 26‘10 south Architects, an award winning practice based in Johannesburg. He speaks on what it means to be a socially committed architect in one of the most unequal cities in the world.
