In his talk at TEDxUBC Basil Peters observes that the world has changed - the economy has changed a lot. He shares how he is part of the first generation that was not as well off as our parents. We are living through the beginning of the decline of western civilization. If our children are going to have anywhere near the standard of living we have enjoyed, we must be better at educating them about how the world has changed.
Basil Peters is passionate about entrepreneurship and believes the world would be a better place if we encouraged more young people to be entrepreneurs. For the first half of his career he was an entrepreneurial CEO. More recently, he has been a hedge fund manager, venture capitalist and angel investor. Basil's first book hones in not on the start-up but the pay-off -- Early Exits -- Exit Strategies for Entrepreneurs and Angel Investors (But Maybe Not Venture Capitalists). In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is call TEDxUBC, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxUBC event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
